Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard.

✔ Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.

✔ I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine.

✔ Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least. They always continue to grow sufficiently unlike afterwards to have their share of vexation; and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life.

✔ The insipidity, and yet the noise — the nothingness, and yet the self-importance of all those people!

✔ A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony, in a moment.

✔ "I am astonished, my dear," said Mrs. Bennet, "that you should be so ready to think your own children silly. If I wished to think slightingly of anybody's children, it should not be of my own, however."

✔ The distance is nothing when one has a motive.

✔ "All young ladies accomplished! My dear Charles, what do you mean?"
"Yes, all of them, I think. They all paint tables, cover screens, and net purses. I scarcely know anyone who cannot do all this, and I am sure I never heard a young lady spoken of for the first time, without being informed that she was very accomplished."
"Your list of the common extent of accomplishments," said Darcy, "has too much truth. The word is applied to many a woman who deserves it no otherwise than by netting a purse or covering a screen."

✔ Everything nourishes what is strong already.

✔ "Nothing is more deceitful," said Darcy, "than the appearance of humility. It is often only carelessness of opinion, and sometimes an indirect boast."

✔ "Nay," cried Bingley, "this is too much, to remember at night all the foolish things that were said in the morning."
